TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT

Taxis: Metered taxis are available 24 hours a day outside all terminals. Payment with a credit card is accepted, though make sure you ask the driver beforehand! The cost of the journey is approximately €14-18 (Euros)

Public Transport: Affordable bus is available, which drops passengers within walking distance of NYUAD. Bus passes (approximately €3), can be purchased from the airport information desk in the arrivals hall.

ELECTRICITY – The voltage in the UAE is 220-240 AC, 50 Hertz, with Plug Type G.

CREDIT CARD AND CURRENCY – Major credit and charge cards such as American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, and Visa are widely accepted. The currency is the United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED). Banks and exchange bureaus in major shopping centers and airports facilitate currency exchange. The UAE dirham has an exchange rate of approximately 3.98 AED to 1 EURO.

TIME DIFFERENCE – UAE time is 4 hours ahead of GMT.

SMOKING – Smoking is prohibited in most public places and transportation vehicles.

MOBILE PHONE LOCAL SIM CARD – You can obtain a free SIM card and purchase a data package (2GB costs around $25) from the Etisalat desk near WHSmith in the arrivals lounge after claiming your luggage.

Abu Dhabi Taxi – Abu Dhabi’s taxi network is operated by TransAD. To book a taxi through TransAD call 600 53 53 53 or download the Abu Dhabi Taxi App on GooglePlay and AppStore.

Careem – Careem is an affordable, chauffeured car booking service operating in the Middle East. Get in on GooglePlay and AppStore.

Uber – Uber has been available in the UAE since 2013.

Bus – There is a regular bus service connecting the NYUAD Campus with downtown Abu Dhabi (bus line 170). You can find more information and the schedule here.

RTA Bus from Dubai – One can travel to Abu Dhabi by bus from other Emirates such as Sharjah and Dubai. The municipalities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai jointly operate a service called the Emirates Express, which travels between the two cities in about 2 hours. Additionally, Dubai’s RTA operates luxury buses from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, departing every 30 minutes. Travelers arriving in Dubai via Emirates Airlines can also obtain extension tickets for bus transfers to Abu Dhabi directly from the airport.
