Workshop on Inclusive Games – Call for Papers

Workshop Chairs

Scope

Inclusive game design is a pragmatic approach for inclusion that goes beyond accessibility into aesthetics and user experiences. One reason is that games have deliberate barriers or game rules that challenge abilities, without which it would be no game. Furthermore, inclusive game design is also framed by intrinsic motivation of playing the game. Aesthetics has also been shown to improve usability. Thus, inclusive game design requires a combination of accessibility and aesthetics to create enjoyable game experiences. This special issue highlights aesthetics for inclusion in games, in the intersection of Arts and IT.

Topics

We invite papers that discuss and explore aesthetics of inclusive game design, both theoretical and empirical. In addition to the focus on games and digital accessibility, papers may also relate to other fields of art, such as:

– theatre

– movies

– museums and exhibitions

– dance performances

– painting

– sculpture

– comics

– music and singing

– architecture
