The intersection of biofeedback and art has emerged as an exciting, interdisciplinary field that bridges technology, creativity, and human physiology. Biofeedback art, where real-time physiological data is harnessed to influence visual, auditory, or sensory artistic expressions, offers new opportunities for artistic exploration, self-expression, and interactive experiences. This special track seeks to bring together artists, researchers, technologists, and practitioners to explore the creative and scientific potential of biofeedback art.

As this field continues to evolve, biofeedback art not only challenges traditional understandings of art and performance but also opens up new dimensions for engaging audiences and participants in novel, deeply personal ways. This track invites papers and projects that explore the fusion of human physiology with artistic media, considering both creative outcomes and the impact of biofeedback systems on art perception, interaction, and emotional engagement.

We welcome papers, works-in-progress, and innovative projects on the following (but not limited to) topics:

  • Artistic Practices and Techniques:
    • Innovative use of biofeedback devices in interactive art installations
    • The role of physiological data in art creation and curation
    • Biofeedback-driven performance art and immersive experiences
    • Artistic exploration of biometric signals (e.g., heart rate, EEG, skin conductance) in real-time media
  • Human-Computer Interaction (HCI):
    • The design of biofeedback systems for interactive art installations
    • HCI approaches to improve user experience with biofeedback technologies in artistic environments
    • The role of biofeedback in shaping artistic intent and audience interaction
  • Psychophysiological Impact and Aesthetic Experience:
    • Emotional responses to biofeedback-driven art and its therapeutic potential
    • The relationship between physiological states and aesthetic perception in biofeedback art
    • Biofeedback and emotional regulation through artistic engagement
  • Technological and Methodological Innovations:
    • Advances in wearable biofeedback technologies and their integration into art practices
    • Machine learning and AI in the interpretation and visualization of physiological data in art
    • Novel hardware or software platforms for biofeedback-driven art creation
  • Ethical and Philosophical Considerations:
    • Ethical implications of using biofeedback data in art and performance
    • Privacy and consent in biofeedback-enabled artistic experiences
    • Philosophical questions surrounding the authenticity and ownership of biofeedback art
  • Anthony L. Brooks, Emeritus professor, Aalborg University, Denmark
  • Bruno Miguel Azevedo, Centro ALGORITMI, engageLab – Universidade do Minho, Portugal

  • Anastasia Chernysheva
  • Bruno Miguel
  • Cheng Yang
  • Duncan Williams

All registered papers will be submitted for publishing by Springer – LNICST series and made available through SpringerLink Digital Library: ArtsIT Conference Proceedings.

Proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in leading indexing services, such as Web of Science, Compendex, Scopus, DBLP, EU Digital Library, Google Scholar, IO-Port, MathSciNet, Inspec, and Zentralblatt MATH.

Available Journals

All accepted authors are eligible to submit an extended version in a fast track of:

By paying an additional $150, authors can publish their articles in the EAI Endorsed Transactions journal selected by the conference (Scopus and Ei-indexed):

The article’s publication is subject to the following requirements:

  • It must be an extended version of the conference paper with a different title and abstract. In general, 30% of new content must be added.
  • The article will be processed once the conference proceedings have been published.
  • The article will be processed using the fast-track option.

Once the conference proceedings are published, the corresponding author should contact us at [email protected] with the details of their article to begin processing.

Additional publication opportunities:
– EAI Transactions series (Open Access)
– EAI/Springer Innovations in Communications and Computing Book Series
(titles in this series are indexed in Ei Compendex, Web of Science & Scopus)

Papers should be submitted through EAI ‘Confy+‘ system, and have to comply with the Springer format (see Author’s kit section).

Regular papers should be up to 12-20 pages in length.
Short papers should be 6-11 pages in length.

All conference papers undergo a thorough peer review process prior to the final decision and publication. This process is facilitated by experts in the Technical Program Committee during a dedicated conference period. Standard peer review is enhanced by EAI Community Review which allows EAI members to bid to review specific papers. All review assignments are ultimately decided by the responsible Technical Program Committee Members while the Technical Program Committee Chair is responsible for the final acceptance selection. You can learn more about Community Review here.
