Scope and Objectives
Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) – the vibrant tapestry of oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, knowledge systems, and craftsmanship – forms the bedrock of cultural identity and diversity. Yet, its ephemeral nature presents significant challenges to its preservation and transmission to future generations. This special track, Interactive Design in Intangible Heritage: Exploring Interdisciplinary Perspectives, at ArtsIT 2025, invites researchers, practitioners, and artists to delve into the transformative potential of interactive technologies to safeguard, interpret, and share this invaluable heritage in the digital age.
This special track aims to showcase cutting-edge research and innovative practices at the intersection of interactive design and intangible heritage. We seek contributions that explore how emerging technologies can be leveraged to create engaging, meaningful, and impactful experiences that connect diverse audiences with the richness of ICH. We encourage submissions that adopt a strong interdisciplinary lens, drawing upon insights from fields such as human-computer interaction (HCI), design, heritage studies, anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, computer science, engineering, art, education, and beyond.
Special Track Topics
- Novel Interaction Paradigms for ICH: Exploring innovative interaction design methods and frameworks specifically tailored for the unique characteristics of intangible heritage (e.g., gesture-based interaction, tangible interfaces, participatory design).
- Immersive Technologies (VR/AR/MR) for Experiencing ICH: Investigating the use of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality to create immersive and engaging experiences of intangible cultural practices, rituals, and performances.
- AI-Powered Tools for ICH Preservation and Interpretation: Exploring the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for tasks such as automated transcription of oral traditions, semantic analysis of cultural data, and personalized heritage experiences.
- Serious Games and Gamification for ICH Education: Designing and evaluating the effectiveness of games and gamified approaches for learning about and engaging with intangible heritage.
- Interactive Storytelling and Digital Narratives for ICH: Developing compelling interactive narratives and digital storytelling techniques to transmit the knowledge, values, and emotions embedded within intangible cultural expressions.
- Participatory and Community-Based Approaches: Exploring methods for involving communities in co-creating and co-curating interactive experiences related to their intangible heritage.
- Ethical Considerations in Digital ICH: Addressing issues of authenticity, ownership, cultural appropriation, accessibility, and sustainability in the context of interactive technologies and intangible heritage.
- Case Studies and Best Practices: Showcasing successful examples of interactive design projects that have positively impacted the preservation, promotion, or transmission of intangible heritage.
- Inclusive Design for Diverse Audiences: Ensuring that interactive heritage experiences are accessible and engaging for people of all ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.

Once the conference proceedings are published, the corresponding author should contact us at [email protected] with the details of their article to begin processing.
Additional publication opportunities:
– EAI Transactions series (Open Access)
– EAI/Springer Innovations in Communications and Computing Book Series
(titles in this series are indexed in Ei Compendex, Web of Science & Scopus)
Paper Submission
Papers should be submitted through EAI ‘Confy+‘ system, and have to comply with the Springer format (see Author’s kit section).
– Regular papers should be up to 12-20 pages in length.
– Short papers should be 6-11 pages in length.
All conference papers undergo a thorough peer review process prior to the final decision and publication. This process is facilitated by experts in the Technical Program Committee during a dedicated conference period. Standard peer review is enhanced by EAI Community Review which allows EAI members to bid to review specific papers. All review assignments are ultimately decided by the responsible Technical Program Committee Members while the Technical Program Committee Chair is responsible for the final acceptance selection. You can learn more about Community Review here.
