The ArtsIT international conference is widely and positively acknowledged through its over 15 year existence, its innovation across disciplines that are presented at the event, and its high quality papers that are indexed under the Springer book of proceedings.

This special track on ‘Gaming History and the Art of Play’ invites scholars, researchers, artists, and game enthusiasts to submit papers that explore the intricate history and artistic dimensions of video games. As the medium matures, understanding games as both a cultural phenomenon and an art form has become a critical point of discussion in academic and creative circles alike.

This track aims to investigate how video games have shaped and been shaped by their historical, cultural, and technological contexts. We invite submissions that consider games not only as entertainment but as complex works of art that engage with various forms of expression, narrative, design, and cultural discourse.

Attending delegates are expected from the fields of gaming history, game design, and digital arts. Expectations are for demos and interactive exhibits showcasing the history and art of video games. Attendance offers networking opportunities with industry professionals, historians, and artists alongside chances to engage in discussions about the evolving role of games as an art form…. And more.

We look forward to your contributions in helping shape the future of gaming scholarship and celebrating the medium as both a powerful tool of artistic expression and an essential part of our cultural heritage.
